We helped achieve a world record with purpose, in mental health awareness week!

As part of mental health awareness week in May, the Roseland Partners team joined an online mental health lesson with viewers from all over the world, led by mental health advocate Michelle Morgan – and helped break a world record for views of a mental health session in the process! Personal stories, explanations and useful tools were shared.

Thoughts from our intern, Gabriella Fajemirokun: Through her work, Michelle aims to break down the stigma around mental health issues, normalise speaking about them, and encourage us to give our mental health the same attention as we do our physical health. By sharing and owning our stories, it will help other people share theirs – including at work. Burnout from work / work-related stress is the most common form of stress, with 79% of UK adults experiencing it. Many topics were discussed during the session, and my main takeaway was the theme of loneliness and the irony of it, as it is something that we can all connect and relate to. Michelle stated that it is her mission to make mental health an everyday conversation and I hope we are all able to make that transformation eventually.

Cost of living continues to outpace wage growth

Wage growth in the UK continues to fall behind the cost of living, official statistics for November to January have confirmed, while the number of job vacancies and levels of economic inactivity both grow.

The Office for National Statistics said that, adjusted for inflation, regular pay fell by 1% compared to the previous year, while real total pay grew by 0.1%.

Nearly 40 per cent of FTSE 100 board roles held by women, data reveals

The first report from the Women Leaders Review shows female representation continues to improve, but experts say more still needs to be done

Nearly two in five board seats across the UK’s top listed companies are held by women, up from just 12.5 per cent from a decade ago, new data has shown.

In its first report, the government-backed FTSE Women Leaders Review found that 39.1 per cent of board level positions across the FTSE 100 companies are now occupied by women, up from 36.2 per cent at the beginning of 2021.

The report also found 85 of the top 100 listed companies have met the government’s target of having a third of board positions filled by women, while almost half of the FTSE 100 firms now have 40 per cent or more women on their board.

What employment law changes will there be in 2022?

Over the last two years, the COVID-19 pandemic has meant that many of the previously anticipated employment law changes have been delayed or postponed. With the hope that we are starting to see the end of the pandemic restrictions, 2022 should see legislative developments start to progress further.

In this article we look at some of the confirmed and proposed developments in employment law that businesses need to be aware of, due to take effect in 2022 and beyond.

The Great Resignation? Record numbers of workers are switching jobs but vacancies rise again

Brits are leaving their jobs in record numbers as a phenomenon dubbed the ‘Great Resignation’ hits the UK.

Job-to-job moves totalled 979,000 between July and September, new figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show.

ONS statisticians said it was largely driven by resignations rather than dismissals, backing up polling that shows workers are feeling more empowered than ever to change jobs.

The ‘Great Resignation’ was first seen in the US over the summer, with the phrase credited to business and management professor Anthony Klotz.

GDPR

Like all other businesses across Europe, today a new Privacy Policy and Cookie Statement have come into effect for our business and our website, in accordance with the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).

As a business we’re quite fortunate to have set up when quite a lot of information was already available on the requirements and impacts of the GDPR. This meant that from the outset we were educating ourselves and were mindful of obtaining consent for data processing, and ensuring our (then relatively small amount of) data was ‘clean’. Nonetheless, it’s been a lot to learn and implement over the last few months!

But, now the flurry of GDPR emails requesting consent to process our data from businesses far and wide have been dealt with (or not!), we have no doubt that this will be a positive step for individuals and for the recruitment industry – ensuring that people’s personal information is handled responsibly and securely.

For those engaging with our website and our business, you can find all of the updated information using the links at the bottom of our homepage and here: Privacy Policy, Cookie Statement and Terms of Use. Additionally for candidates and potential candidates, we will be introducing a new, easier way for you to give your consent for us to process your data from next week.

We welcome any questions or comments, including from other small businesses on the GDPR journey. Contact Caroline on caroline@roselandpartners.com or +44 (0) 7974 579022.

Our candidate referral scheme

We’ve now been in business for just over a month and have really enjoyed the start-up phase, and both getting to know and reacquainting ourselves with candidates and clients. The market is buoyant given the time of year, and we’re looking forward to seeing how 2018 develops.

As Co-founders of the business we’re also really enjoying working together again. We worked closely for several years in our first recruitment jobs, and after an 11 year hiatus it’s good to be in partnership again! Between us we have experience spanning contingent and in-house recruitment, executive search (including search to search), human resources and running businesses.

Not surprisingly, the most important thing for our business is to constantly grow an excellent quality candidate base. And we know that good people know good people. So, if you can recommend a candidate to us, we would like to show our appreciation with a gift with a bit of a difference…

A different approach to incentivising referrals

If you’ve already had a look around our website, you’ll have noticed that we’re trying to have a small positive impact on the world through our business – from how we light our offices through to who we bank and insure our business with. You can read more about this here. We’re continuing this theme with our ongoing candidate referral incentives, which are available to anyone who recommends a candidate to us who we later place in a position.
